Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol faced an attempted attack by a group of unruly youths on Thursday, July 13.
Oduol arrived at his office around 3 pm and went straight to his office. He was however soon confronted by a group of youths who stormed in, attempting to evict him.
Gates to the premises were quickly locked by security officers. Members of the public and the media were also ordered out by the security officials.
His security team called for police reinforcement, causing tension at the county government headquarters. Oduol was forced to stay in his office for two hours as the crowd of unruly youth built up outside.
Eventually, Mr. Oduol left under tight security provided by a contingent of police officers. The police surrounded his convoy as he traveled through Siaya town. The convoy was also accompanied by a few of his supporters.
The Deputy Governor also appealed for a truce between himself and Governor James Orengo. He expressed his desire to sit together with Mr. Orengo and resolve their differences for the benefit of the people of Siaya County.
“Mine is a call for peace and reconciliation and I want to encourage our leadership, church leaders and elders in Siaya to bring us together so that on a much-accelerated basis, we are able to embark on a journey of transforming this beautiful county,” Oduol said.
Oduol also emphasized the need for harmonious work to deliver on the nine-point manifesto they presented during their campaign. He expressed gratitude to his supporters for standing by him during the impeachment process.
The Deputy Governor has vowed to continue raising concerns whenever he believes that things are not being done correctly in the county administration led by Governor Orengo.
