Detectives in Thika recovered a stolen Ceska pistol, which had been taken from a civilian firearm holder in Kahawa Sukari back in January 2023. The weapon was found in the house of a wounded man in Makongeni, Thika.
The recovery of the pistol followed an alert from concerned members of the public who reported an unknown man being shot near the Thika Level Five hospital. The assailant, riding in a Toyota Probox, sped away after the shooting.
Upon arrival at the scene, the police discovered the injured man. They promptly transported him to the hospital, where doctors managed to stop his bleeding.
However, identifying the patient proved to be a challenge as he had no identifying documents. He was also initially unwilling to disclose his name.
In response, law enforcement initiated a forensic identification process, successfully determining his name. They then traced his place of residence to Gireki Plaza in the Kiganjo area of Makongeni, Thika.
During a search of the wounded man’s residence, the investigators uncovered the stolen Ceska pistol. At the time, it was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition. It was also hidden under a carpet alongside a stash of bhang.
Preliminary findings suggest that this firearm is the same one stolen from a civilian firearm holder in Kahawa Sukari in January 2023, during a robbery at a construction site where the victim’s mobile phone and cash were also taken.
On the same day of the robbery, the two suspects responsible for the theft of the gun confronted three citizens in Landless Section 2. They robbed them of their mobile phones and money at gunpoint.
Ongoing investigations indicate a possible connection between the wounded suspect and his assailants. The detectives suggest there may have been a prior altercation before the shooting occurred.
The injured individual, now considered a suspect in violent robberies, remains under police guard until his recovery, formal arrest, and subsequent arraignment. He sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach, and law enforcement continues to pursue his shooters.
