Your WhatsApp profile picture showcases your personality and helps others identify you, but concerns over potential misuse have lingered. To address this, a new beta update introduces a significant privacy feature: blocking screenshots of profile pictures.
Previously, although downloading profile pictures was disabled, screenshots remained a loophole. The latest beta for Android (version #2.24.4.25) now tackles this by preventing screenshots of profile pictures altogether. Attempting to do so results in a “Can’t take a screenshot due to app restrictions” notification and a black screen instead of the captured image.
This feature, currently available only to some beta testers, is expected to gradually roll out to all users in the coming weeks.
It adds an important layer of protection, especially considering the existing limitations on saving profile pictures. While you can restrict who sees your profile picture, this didn’t prevent determined individuals from taking screenshots.
