A two-year-old baby girl who was playing with her friends at a staircase next to their house located on the eighth floor of a tall residential building in Tassia estate, Nairobi fell to the ground and was rushed to hospital where she died.

Mark Eristas told police that Blessing Mumo was playing unsupervised by an adult with other children when the accident happened yesterday. The child was rushed to Forces Memorial Hospital along Mbagathi road but she unfortunately passed away due to the extent of her injuries.

Cases of children dying from such falls are common especially in high-density residential areas where there are no playing grounds and kids are forced to play in balconies or staircases. Two months ago, a four-year-old boy fell from a balcony in Kahawa West, Nairobi, while playing with his friends.

Police said Mark Allan slid and fell on his head from the fourth floor of an apartment block. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

“He landed on the ground floor of the apartment [block] and sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he died while being attended to,” said the police.
