Police have this morning identified the decomposing body of former Treasury official Tom Osinde at River Kuja in Migori county. This brings to an end two weeks of agonizing uncertainty by the family.
The body was retrieved from the river on Thursday, 22 June 2023. However, it was not identified immediately and was taken to the mortuary.
The identification comes just a day after Osinde’s two workers were arrested in connection with his disappearance. Osinde’s family, led by his brother Enock Nemwel Osinde, identified the body on Wednesday, 28 June 2023.
“Thank you, friends, for your outpouring of love, prayers, and support during my brother’s search. Unfortunately, the outcome isn’t the one we anticipated. Tom was killed, and his body was found in Migori County. Please continue praying for us as we try to come to terms with this loss,” said Enock.
Osinde was traveling from Nakuru to Kisii before his mysterious disappearance on June 17. His car registration number KBZ 900R, a black Land Cruiser, was found vandalized in Kilgoris three days later. At the time the car was found, it was missing its number plates, the battery and the radio. The car was last seen on June 18, driving out of his home in Ngata estate driven by a stranger.
Two suspects, Julius Mogoi and Mugo Gathii, both employees at Osinde’s farm, have been arrested following the discovery of crucial evidence. The investigating detectives believe Osinde may have been killed somewhere in Kisii before his body was dumped in Migori.
