Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has informed the court that he has spent Ksh.58.6 million on the medical treatment and care of Felix Orinda, also known as DJ Evolve.

Babu Owino made these statements while defending himself against charges of firearm misuse. He stated that he purchased a Ksh.17 million apartment in Kilimani for DJ Evolve, where he currently resides.

Additionally, the court heard that the MP intends to provide DJ Evolve with further treatment and establish a DJ academy business for him. Babu Owino explained that the family was unable to support DJ Evolve, and as a leader, he took on the responsibility of paying the medical bills, which amounted to Ksh.23 million.

He also mentioned that he hired two nurses, two physiotherapists, and one occupational therapist for DJ Evolve, with monthly expenses totaling Ksh.300,000.

Furthermore, Babu Owino stated that he has paid Ksh.11.1 million for the apartment and is continuing to make monthly payments for 37 months. He takes care of DJ Evolve’s living expenses, providing Ksh.70,000 per month for bills and food, and Ksh.80,000 per month for medication. To date, he has paid Ksh.5.5 million over the course of 37 months.

Regarding the alleged offense, Babu Owino claimed that his gun had jammed on the day in question, making it impossible for it to have fired the bullet. He defended himself by stating, “The gun could not shoot. The bullet could have come from another firearm.”
