The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against four Members of Parliament who showed support for the Finance Bill 2023 during its Third Reading.

The legislators facing disciplinary action from the party are Esther Passaris, the Nairobi Woman Representative, and Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo, the Member of Parliament for Gem constituency.

In addition to Esther Passaris and Elisha Ochieng Odhiambo, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has also initiated disciplinary action against Aden Adow Mohamed, the Member of Parliament for Wajir South, and Caroli Omondi, the Member of Parliament for Suba South.

The party has received numerous complaints from its general membership regarding the behavior of these members of the National Assembly during the recent vote on the Finance Bill, 2023.

Furthermore, the party has also announced that it will take disciplinary action against 24 lawmakers who were absent during the debate on the Finance Bill 2023, which took place on Tuesday, June 14.

Some of the MPs who were absent during the debate include Babu Owino, the Member of Parliament for Embakasi East, John Mbadi (nominated), Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang’o), the Member of Parliament for Lang’ata, and Gideon Ochanda, the Member of Parliament for Bondo. TJ Kajwang, the Member of Parliament for Ruaraka, and Mark Nyamita, the Member of Parliament for Uriri, were also listed.

According to the party’s disciplinary rules, notices have been issued to these members, requesting them to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against them. They are expected to respond within the next 48 hours, as directed by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
