Ex-CJ Willy Mutunga was among rights activists teargassed at Central Police Station during the ‘Saba Saba’ demos and was captured having a conversation with controversial human rights activist, Boniface Mwangi while shopping at a Quickmart outlet in the Lavington area.

His arrest resulted from demanding the immediate release of persons arrested during Friday’s (7/7/2023) Saba Saba rally spearheaded by opposition don, Raila Odinga.

In the video, he was purchasing supplies for protesters who were arrested by police during the nationally declared demonstration by Azimio leader, Raila Odinga.

Dr. Mutunga called out Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and Attorney General Justin Muturi over police brutality meted on protestors during the Saba Saba demonstrations

He opined that the duo, by virtue of their rich experience in law, should be the ones advising and guiding the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and his troops on how to handle protestors.

Kindiki is a professor of Law with a background in International Human Rights Law and Democracy from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

Muturi on the other hand served as Principal Magistrate at the Nairobi Law Courts from 1983 – 1997.
