Broadcast veteran Joe Munene appointed as Standard Group Acting CEO

Munene previously worked with the Nation Media Group (NMG) as General Manager NTV-Uganda and CNBC Africa before joining the Standard Group.

The Standard Group Limited Board has appointed Joe Munene as the Acting Chief Executive Officer following the resignation of Orlando Lyomu.

In a statement on Friday, July 7, the Standard  Group stated that the appointment of Munene took effect from Thursday, July 6.

“The Board has appointed Mr. Joe Munene as the Acting Chief Executive Officer with effect from 6th July 2023. Mr. Munene is currently the Company’s Managing Director- Broadcast Division. He has over 20 years’ experience in television broadcast management and joined the Company in 2013,” read the statement in part.

Munene previously worked with the Nation Media Group (NMG) as General Manager NTV-Uganda and CNBC Africa before joining the Standard Group.

He is a graduate of the IESE Business School’s Advanced Management Programme in Media & Entertainment.

Munene also holds an Executive MBA from Jomo Kenyatta University and a Bachelor’s degree in Building Economics, from the University of Nairobi.

Lyomu resigned from the company in late June after serving in the role for six years. He was appointed as the Standard Group’s CEO on May 25, 2018, following the resignation of Sam Shollei
