Authorities are currently investigating a tragic incident involving the death of a man by suicide in Uriri, Migori County. The incident occurred when the man’s wife reportedly refused to cook chicken at their residence.

According to John Atonya, the Assistant Chief of Nyaobe, the 45-year-old man locked himself inside their house and set it on fire. It is alleged that the wife’s refusal to cook chicken for him prompted this extreme action.

Preliminary reports suggest that the wife objected to the idea because the chicken belonged to their daughter. The wife advised him to seek permission from their daughter before proceeding, which led to the man’s protest.

Following the disagreement, the deceased sent his wife away before taking his own life. Despite the efforts of bystanders who rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire, their attempts proved unsuccessful.

Atonya has informed the public that the body of the deceased has been transferred to the Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary while the police conduct their investigations.

In light of this tragic incident, authorities have appealed to couples to explore alternative methods of resolving conflicts, emphasizing the importance of open communication and seeking peaceful resolutions.
