The qualifying period for the prize was between December 19, 2022 and August 10, 2023.

Declan Rice is shortlisted for the FIFA prize, alongside Manchester City Treble winners Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, and Julian Alvarez.

Lionesses Rachel Daly, Alex Greenwood, Lauren James, and Keira Walsh have been nominated for the women’s award.

World Cup Golden Ball winner Aitana Bonmati also joins them on the list, alongside fellow world champions Jenni Hermoso, Mapi Leon, and Salma Paralluelo.

Messi won The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award 2022 after captaining Argentina to glory at the FIFA World Cup.

However, his exploits at Qatar 2022 will not be considered for the 2023 prize as the qualification period is between December 19, 2022, and August 20, in 2023. The World Cup final was on December 18.

Messi scored 24 goals in 31 games for Paris Saint-Germain, Argentina and Inter Miami during the qualification period.

Meanwhile, PSG forward Mbappe ended the 2022/23 season as the Player of the Year and the top scorer in France’s Ligue 1.

Haaland won the European Golden Shoe last season after breaking the Premier League record for most goals scored in a single season.

The Norway forward was also part of a Manchester City side that won the EPL, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League treble.

De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva and Gundogan – who has since moved to Barcelona – also played a key role in City’s treble success.
