Kenyans have humorously turned Ruiru into a trending topic after Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria suggested that prices of goods in the town are significantly more budget-friendly compared to other parts of the country.
During a lively session on Citizen TV on Wednesday night, CS Kuria, known for his outspokenness disputed news anchor Sam Gituku’s evidence that cooking oil prices hadn’t dropped as much as he claimed.
In response, Citizen TV went to an Eldoret supermarket to demonstrate that the Cabinet Secretary’s statement wasn’t accurate.
Caught in a corner, Kuria tried to challenge the facts, suggesting that the news panel should visit Ruiru and conduct a similar survey, quipping, “Let’s go now to Ruiru, send a crew there, we are here for two hours, what’s the hurry for? Si uende Ruiru…”
Ruiru, a town in Kiambu County has been trending on the better part of Friday morning with many finding humor in the absurdity of Kuria’s remarks as the cost of living continues to soar.
Specifically, the online banter about Ruiru has gained momentum following the surge in fuel prices after petrol crossed the Sh200 per litre mark.
The comedy kicked off when a user on the ‘X’ platform, Kianangih, shared a picture of an abandoned fuel station sign indicating extraordinarily low petrol and diesel prices, humorously implying that this was the cost of fuel in Ruiru.
This led to a hilarious online competition, with countless Kenyans on the platform asking the same question: “Who’s in Ruiru and can tell us the actual fuel prices?”
