Nairobi, Kenya — August 10, 2026: Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has claimed that President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua could reunite politically ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kuria suggested that Ruto Gachagua political deal could emerge despite the bitter fallout between the two leaders that culminated in Gachagua’s impeachment in 2024.

Ruto Gachagua political deal could happen

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, August 9, Kuria challenged Gachagua to publicly declare that he has no political agreement with Ruto and will not enter into one before the 2027 elections.

Kuria argued that Kenya’s political landscape could produce unexpected alliances as political parties and leaders position themselves ahead of the next election.

“I’ve asked him yesterday to go to the moderator of the PCEA church. Take the Bible and say to the world, one, that he doesn’t have a deal currently with William Ruto. And two, that he’s not going to have one before 2027,” Kuria said.

The former Cabinet Secretary further claimed that Gachagua was preparing to travel to the United States in September, at around the same time Ruto is expected to be there.

“Rigathi is preparing for an overseas trip in September in the US. Ruto will be there in September. I don’t know what I’m saying, but watch this space,” Kuria added.

Kuria did not provide evidence of an existing political agreement between Ruto and Gachagua.

Gachagua denies working with Ruto

Gachagua, who leads the Democracy of Citizens Party (DCP), has previously rejected suggestions that he could return to Ruto’s political camp.

The former Deputy President has instead remained active in opposition politics alongside other leaders seeking to unite behind a single candidate to challenge Ruto in the 2027 presidential election.

The speculation about a Ruto Gachagua political deal comes as political leaders continue forming alliances ahead of the August 11, 2027, General Election.

The political environment is expected to become increasingly competitive as parties and presidential hopefuls seek to consolidate their support bases.

How Ruto and Gachagua fell out

Ruto and Gachagua were elected President and Deputy President respectively on the Kenya Kwanza ticket in the 2022 General Election.

Their relationship later deteriorated amid growing political differences.

Gachagua was accused of undermining the President and engaging in conduct that was considered incompatible with his role as Deputy President.

Parliament subsequently initiated an impeachment process against him.

The National Assembly passed the impeachment motion before the Senate upheld his removal from office in October 2024.

Gachagua later challenged his impeachment in court, arguing that the process was unconstitutional and unlawful.

The High Court, however, upheld his removal from office. Gachagua subsequently appealed the decision, with the matter expected to proceed through the courts.

2027 alliances take shape

Despite the political fallout, Gachagua has continued to play an active role in opposition politics.

He has worked with several opposition figures who have called for a united political front against Ruto in the 2027 elections.

Ruto, meanwhile, has continued to defend his administration’s record while mobilising support ahead of the next election.

Whether the two former allies could eventually find common ground remains uncertain.

For now, Kuria’s remarks have added fresh speculation to an already fluid political landscape.

A Ruto Gachagua political deal would represent a major shift in Kenya’s 2027 political calculations, but neither Ruto nor Gachagua has confirmed that such an agreement exists.
