Dozens injured after bus collides with elephant in Voi

A tragic incident at Voi on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway late Saturday night killed an elephant and left one person seriously injured.

Residents of the Maungu area were visibly in shock when they gathered around the bloody scene of the accident.

According to to witnesses, a Tahmeed bus, en route to Nairobi from Mombasa, collided with the massive animal. The impact of the accident is said to have killed the animal.

Several other passengers on board the bus also sustained injuries. They were subsequently rushed to the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi for medical attention.

According to a report from the local police, the accident occurred as the bus was traveling from Mombasa to Nairobi. The driver of the bus is believed to have been speeding when the collision took place, as the elephant attempted to cross the road into Tsavo East National Park.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
