Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced on Sunday, October 08, that elite police officers will not be sent to Haiti.

Speaking during a church service at St. Andrews ACK Church in Ndenderu in Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu County, CS Kindiki explained that the government has chosen not to deploy elite police officers to Haiti due to concerns that it might compromise national security.

Kindiki emphasized that the deployment would not impact the elite, specialist-trained officers who are currently engaged in counterterrorism efforts, combating banditry, and addressing other significant threats to national security.

He further assured the public that Kenya has an adequate number of security personnel and the capability to assign police officers for the mission.

“We have other officers. We can reorganize and determine whom to send there,” he stated.

The Cabinet Secretary mentioned that Kenya would send general police officers to the Caribbean nation, which would provide them with international experience.

Kindiki also assured Kenyans that the government has taken necessary measures to ensure that the deployment to Haiti will not weaken Kenya’s security in terms of personnel.

“As the CS responsible for the security of the country, I want to assure you that our deployment of officers to Haiti will not in any way affect our ongoing programs and our unwavering commitment to defeating all threats to our national security,” Kindiki promised.

He further clarified that the elite police units typically deployed to North Rift and Lamu regions would not be reassigned to Haiti.
