Former police officer Ahmed Rashid who was interdicted for murder is now running a criminal gang, sauce.co.ke can reliably report.
Rashid who is facing murder charges for killing two unarmed men in Eastleigh, Nairobi is according to intelligence reports running a criminal gang in the same area.
The gang which is known as ‘Shire’ is collecting Sh1000 daily from hawkers in Eastleigh and Mathare as protection fees.
“The group is being coordinated by Ahmed Rashid Hassan (sergeant) an officer who was based at Pangani Police station but who has since been interdicted and is facing murder charges,” says the report which has been circulated to all security agencies about the rise in criminal gangs in Nairobi.
Rashid who is accused of killing two young men in Eastleigh pleaded not guilty in April for murder charges.
Appearing before High Court judge Diana Mochache, Rashid pleaded not guilty.
Rashid took plea after High Court judge Diana Mochache dismissed his application on jurisdiction.
Justice Mochache ruled that the court has jurisdiction to hear the murder case adding that the application challenging the court’s jurisdiction was premature.
Rashid was granted a Ksh.200,000 cash bail after the court dismissed the prosecution’s opposition to his bail application.
He is accused of murdering two teenagers in 2017, in a case that raised questions about extrajudicial killings after video footage of the shootings went viral.
Ahmed Rashid was filmed shooting the two young men as they lay on the ground on a busy street in the capital Nairobi on March 31, 2017.
The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) watchdog recommended murder charges against him last November, saying that its investigation into the deaths “established that the fatalities were occasioned by police action.”
But Rashid contested the charges, telling the Nairobi high court that he was a law-abiding police officer who was carrying out his duty.
