In a surprising turn of events, former Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has sued his own company, the Standard Group.

The case which was filed last week at the High Court using file number MCC/335/2023 came up for mention on Monday before Magistrate Becky Cheloti but failed to take off as both Moi’s lawyers and Standard Group’s attorneys did not show up in court.

The file has also been hidden making it difficult to know what the contents of the case are.

Moi is a principal shareholder of the Standard Group after inheriting a majority of the shares at Kenya’s oldest media house from his late father President Daniel Arap Moi.

The company’s top three shareholders are S.N.G Holdings Limited (69.03%), Trade World Kenya Limited (10.90%) and Miller Trustees Limited (10.53%) are all companies linked to the Mois and their associates.

The Mombasa road-based media house owns Kenya Television Network (KTN), Standard Newspaper and a number of radio stations, including Radio Maisha. Other subsidiaries include Rowland Printing and Baraza Limited.
