A 40-year-old woman from Kenya was apprehended on Sunday for attempting to smuggle gold valued at Ksh29 million.
The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) became suspicious as the woman was leaving the airport and decided to profile her. Upon inspection, AIU officers discovered that she had concealed 17 pieces of 22-carat gold bars within her innerwear.
Further investigation unveiled that she also had jewelry made of 21-carat gold hidden within her body.
Remarkably, the woman was carrying a passport issued by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, valid until 2032, adding an intriguing twist to the case.
Indian authorities indicated that the Kenyan woman had departed from Nairobi on September 30, destined for Mumbai.
The AIU officers suspect her involvement in a series of smuggling cases, adding complexity to the ongoing investigation.
