‘Pretty chaotic’
Attempting to conduct his post-match interview in a media tent outside Stadium de Toulouse, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was annoyed by the noise of the home fans.
“We were as organised as this press conference – pretty chaotic,” said a visibly angry Klopp, as Toulouse supporters chanted and banged on the tent.
The bedlam left Klopp struggling to hear questions or translations from the interpreter. This is after Uefa allowed the media conference to take place outside the ground.
It provided a fitting coda to a deeply infuriating evening for Klopp, who had seen his Liverpool side stunned in Toulouse.
Subpar performance by the Reds
Just two weeks after a thumping 5-1 win at Anfield over a side just one point above the Ligue 1 relegation play-off place, the Reds produced a subpar performance in a 3-2 defeat.
A controversial video assistant referee decision however denied Liverpool a stoppage-time equalizer as they suffered a surprise Europa League loss to Toulouse.
Quansah slammed in from close range to spark wild Liverpool celebrations and furious protestations from Toulouse. However, Bulgarian referee Georgi Kabakov was called to the VAR screen after initially having already appeared to point to the centre circle.
Disallowed goal
The ball had bounced off Mac Allister’s chest into his upper arm much earlier in the move, which was ruled enough to disallow the goal.
Toulouse impressed for much of the match and went 2-0 up through strikes from Aron Donnum and Thijs Dallinga.
Liverpool pulled one back through a bizarre own goal from Cristian Casseres Jr. However, Frank Magri restored the French side’s two-goal advantage.
Substitute Diogo Jota then scored for Liverpool with two minutes of normal time left.
Liverpool sadly thought they had earned a point with virtually the final kick of the match, before VAR’s intervention.
