Kenyan Hollywood star Lupita Nyong’o has officially confirmed her relationship with Canadian actor Joshua Jackson, following her recent breakup with Selema Masekela.
The couple was spotted in Joshua Tree, California, strolling hand in hand, dressed casually. Lupita, in yellow sweatpants and a striped shirt, and Jackson, in a gray beanie and black sweatpants, seemed joyous during their outing.
This public appearance comes after being seen together at Erewhon Market in Los Angeles and attending a Janelle Monáe concert with friends.
Joshua Jackson, known for Dawson’s Creek, is currently navigating a divorce from his wife of over three years, Jodie Turner-Smith. They share a daughter, Juno Rose Diana Jackson, born in April 2020.
Lupita Nyong’o, known for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, had previously been romantically linked to Selema Masekea, with their relationship going public in December 2022.
However, Nyong’o announced their breakup on Instagram in August, expressing her heartbreak due to deception. In a reflective post, she emphasized facing the pain and trusting in the healing process.
Despite acknowledging that a part of her did not want to go public with the news until she got over Selema, Lupita highlighted that by sharing her experience and embracing the pain, she can inspire others who are going through similar hardships to do the same.
“And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass,” said Kenya’s only Oscar winner.
“The promise, they say, is that a tender heart is what gives birth to fearlessness. I hope it’s true… I share this to keep it 100, and I hope that the knowledge of my experience might be useful to someone else out there experiencing the grip of heartbreak who is poised to try and escape from the pain and miss out on the wisdom that comes from it. Let’s face our pain so we don’t spread it.”
