A family in the Waruku area of Dagoretti, Nairobi, faced a tragic incident as their two-year-old son passed away after accidentally swallowing a balloon during playtime.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Monday evening, with both the police and the family providing details.

According to the mother, the boy had been attempting to inflate the balloon when he inadvertently placed it in his mouth and swallowed it, leading to a choking hazard and impeding his ability to breathe.

In a rushed response, the family and neighbors transported him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Law enforcement officials were summoned to the scene, where they processed the body before transferring it to the mortuary for an autopsy and further investigation.

Such accidents involving children and household items have been recurrent, prompting renewed calls for guardians and parents to exercise caution and vigilance in ensuring their children’s safety.
