Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have apprehended an individual who allegedly demanded a bribe of Ksh.1.5 million, claiming to act on behalf of an unnamed Principal Secretary.
The arrested individual, Mark Kipruto Kuto, asserted to be the Personal Assistant to the undisclosed Principal Secretary. Allegedly, he sought the bribe to facilitate the government official’s assistance in securing a job for the complainant as the Chief Executive Officer of the South Nyanza Sugar Company.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi disclosed that the complainant promptly reported the matter to the anti-graft agency, leading to a thorough investigation. Mr. Ngumbi stated that the suspect was apprehended within Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) after accepting the bribe.
Currently the suspect is being held at Integrity Centre for processing before being transferred to the Kilimani Police Station, where he will be detained awaiting arraignment.
