Police in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, have apprehended three individuals accused of scamming a group of parents, promising to sponsor their children in secondary school.

The suspects, comprising two men and a woman associated with the NGO “Rising Star Organization,” were arrested in Kobodo Trading Centre following concerns raised by parents reported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation Officers.

The suspects, including the organization’s director, treasurer, and a member, had convinced parents in Ndhiwa that they could financially support students by paying their fees in various high schools.

According to parents’ reports filed at Kobodo police station, they were asked to pay Ksh. 10,000 for children who had scored 350 marks and above.

Ndhiwa Sub-County Police Commander Paul Rioba disclosed that approximately 30 parents were deceived, with each paying Ksh. 10,000.

The three suspects are currently detained at Ndhiwa police station, awaiting arraignment.

Ndhiwa MP Martin Owino condemned the incident and urged parents to be cautious, emphasizing that his office is prepared to support bright and needy students in the constituency through the NG-CDF. He encouraged parents to apply for available bursaries.
