Police in Kisii have arrested two fellow officers and two murder suspects for allegedly organizing a party at Rioma Police Station.
The two officers, who were reportedly on duty at the police station on Thursday, January 25, brought out an undisclosed quantity of local brew, commonly referred to as chang’aa to the reports and inquiries office after seeing off their colleagues.
The party escalated when they later shared some of the remaining alcohol with two murder suspects being held in the cells.
However, the situation took a wrong turn when the murder suspects ended up losing consciousness due to excessive indulgence.
According to police reports, the celebration took a chaotic turn as singing and dancing attracted the attention of other officers.
“When another duty officer went to check on prisoners in cells, he found the prisoners drunk and unable to explain themselves. The two officers were equally drunk,” stated the police OB report.
The station’s OCS, upon inspecting the scene, discovered empty two-litre and quarter-litre bottles in a cell toilet’s cistern, both containing traces of the suspected local brew.
The police accused their colleagues of negligence and jeopardizing security by partying with murder suspects.
Nevertheless, the two officers were only detained pending the resolution of their cases in court.
“The drunken officers and two prisoners were escorted to Kisii Police Station, where alcohol level tests were conducted, and all were found positive,” the OB report further noted.
In response to the test results, the OCS initiated disciplinary action against the two officers.
