Manchester United’s Lisandro Martinez is set to endure a minimum of eight weeks on the sidelines due to a medial collateral ligament injury.

This blow comes at a time when Martinez had only recently made a return from a foot injury, sidelining him for 22 games.

Martinez’s injury will make it a challenging period for manager Erik ten Hag and the struggling Red Devils team.

“Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks,” an official statement on United’s website read.

The injury occurred during the 71st minute of the team’s recent 3-0 victory over West Ham United at Old Trafford.

This setback poses a significant challenge for the Red Devils, who will once again have to rely on the defensive duo of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans to cover for Martinez’s absence.

Martinez’s return to the team in January coincided with an unbeaten run for United, showcasing the impact of the colossal defender.
