Armed youths guarding a disputed piece of land worth Sh1.3 billion in Loresho temporarily detained Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome on Tuesday, March 05, when they locked her inside a disputed piece of land.
The land is in dispute after former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner Davis Nathan Chelogoi claimed ownership of the same parcel of land.
CS Wahome had arrived at the prime land to facilitate the rightful owners’ access to the expansive parcel along Lower Kabete Road, in compliance with a court order.
Upon Wahome’s arrival with a team from her ministry, a group of youths guarding the land quickly locked the only exit gate after her entry.
The CS and her entourage were not aware the gate had been locked behind them until the discovery was made by the rightful owners, Ashok Kumar Rupshi and Hitten Kumar.
Police officers pursued a suspect believed to be the leader of the ununiformed guards and eventually forced him to break the padlock after he failed to produce the keys.
Despite the tense situation, Wahome, accompanied by the Sub-County Security team, remained composed but condemned the incident as unfortunate.
“What we have witnessed is a barbaric act by someone who is using goons to illegally secure this land. We have been illegally detained and those goons must be arrested,” Wahome stated.
