Former Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda on Tuesday, March 19, kickstarted a legal battle to challenge his impeachment and claim his lost seat.

Monda is making a final attempt to salvage his political career following the Senate’s decision to uphold his impeachment.

His legal team confirmed that they had filed for ex-parte hearings before Judge Teresa Odera at the Kisii Law Courts late Tuesday.

“We have completed the filing, and the judge has scheduled the hearing for March 26, 2024,” said Wilkins Achoki, one of the lawyers representing Dr. Monda, along with Katwa Kigeni.

Judge Odera, in court documents, ordered Tuesday that relevant parties be served before the hearing.

“I have carefully considered the ex-parte application dated March 18, 2024. It is ordered that the same be served, and the interparte hearing is set for March 26, 2024, at 10 am,” stated Judge Odera.

The Senate removed the Deputy Governor based on allegations that he accepted an Sh800,000 bribe from Dennis Mokaya, promising him a commercial manager position at the Gusii Water and Sanitation Company.

Additionally, Monda faced accusations of orchestrating the arrest and detention of his brother, Reuben Monda, for cutting down trees on family land, among other charges.

Kisii County Governor Simba Arati is expected to publish a vacancy notice seeking Monda’s replacement by Thursday this week.
