Abubakar Abbass, the 23-year-old Kenyan man who captured the hearts of football fans during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, has launched a YouTube channel.
Abbass rose to fame during the World Cup for his innovative approach to directing visitors to the metro station near the historic Souq Waqif market. Sitting atop a tennis umpire chair and sporting a large foam finger, he became a social media sensation with his trademark catchphrase, “Metro? This way. Metro? This way.”
Following the conclusion of the World Cup, Abbass seemed to fade from the public eye. However, he assures fans that more remarkable ventures are in store. The viral sensation revealed that he has opened a YouTube channel with the aim of inspiring Kenyans.
Abbass remains grounded in his roots, which motivates him to be a source of inspiration.
“I have started a talk show called The Majlis Talk Show here in Qatar. Mostly I invite people of different backgrounds, but the main reason I started the show is to inspire others with the stories we discuss. I have always wanted to do something that can inspire others because I inspired a lot of people with my story from nothing to something,” Abbass said.
His new channel will feature inspiring narratives from individuals who have triumphed over adversity.
“I won’t just invite famous individuals because I want people to hear the stories of those who have faced challenges in life but ultimately conquered them. Moreover, I will also be inviting athletes and entrepreneurs.”
