The families of two Kenyans who lost their lives in last week’s anti-Finance Bill protests will each receive Sh1 million from the Sh3 million raised by fellow Kenyans. The two victims succumbed to injuries sustained during the protests.
Honey Farsafi, also known as Hanifa, confirmed that the funds were sent to the two families on Thursday, specifically to the victims’ mothers. The remaining Sh1 million will be allocated to an injured protester. “The remaining will be sent to the family of Ian, who was shot three times in the back and won’t be able to walk again,” Hanifa stated in a post on X, accompanied by screenshots of the transactions. “This is minus the hospital bills. He will receive it tomorrow since the bank limit can’t allow us today.”
Kenyans raised Sh3,052,989 to support the two families following the deaths of Evans and Rex. According to the M-Change portal, 7,876 people contributed to the initiative, which initially aimed to raise Sh2 million but surpassed the target by Sh1.05 million.
A screenshot shared by Hanifa on X indicated that Sh127,494 was charged as a platform fee, resulting in a net withdrawal of Sh2,872,352.
