Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has claimed that certain government officials are planning to use state agencies to intimidate him due to his outspoken opposition to President William Ruto’s administration.
In a video statement on Thursday, March 27, the MP alleged that unnamed officials met last week to strategize ways to pressure him. He specifically mentioned a planned Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raid on his constituency offices in Donholm, expected either this week or next.
“I was reliably informed by credible sources that EACC detectives were set to visit our offices in Donholm this week. If not, then next week,” he stated.
According to Babu, the alleged plan aims to discredit him by fabricating corruption allegations against Embakasi East.
Refusal to Back Down
The legislator also disclosed that he had been approached multiple times by individuals urging him to soften his stance against the government. However, he remained defiant, insisting that his criticism is driven by the need for better governance.
“If Kenyans had jobs and the healthcare system was functioning properly, I would have no reason to oppose the government,” he declared.
Babu Owino has been a vocal critic of the Ruto administration, frequently challenging its policies, including the controversial Social Health Authority (SHA) initiative. His latest allegations add to ongoing political tensions between government officials and opposition figures.
