MTV Shuga Mashariki has officially unveiled its lead cast ahead of its highly anticipated May premiere, featuring a mix of rising stars and established talent ready to bring the award-winning youth drama to life.

Leading the cast is Serah Wanjiru, known for her role in the Netflix series Volume (2023). Basil Mungai, who gained recognition for his breakout performance in Click Click Bang (2022), also joins the production, alongside Matthew Ngugi, whose intense performances have been seen in Netflix’s Mo Faya (2024). Wilson Muchemi, a digital content creator known for his comedic and lighthearted social media presence, makes his television acting debut.

Fatuma Gichuru steps into her first major TV lead role after building a strong foundation in theater and supporting roles in various films and series. Julie Brenda, an award-winning actress recognized at the African Smartphone Film Festival in 2020, brings her authenticity to the screen. Fridah Mumbe, a celebrated stunt performer and actress, joins the cast after earning the Female Actor of the Year Award in 2023 for her role in Pepeta.

Mariam Bishar, a well-known radio show host, is taking on her first television acting role, while Makena Kahuha, an experienced thespian with over 30 stage plays to her name, adds her talent to the ensemble. She has previously appeared in Subterranea (2024) on Showmax and Country Queen (2022) on Netflix.

Set in the dynamic world of campus life, MTV Shuga Mashariki continues its mission of using compelling storytelling to address issues affecting young people. With narratives informed by extensive youth-centered research, the new season aims to challenge restrictive gender norms and highlight the realities shaping young lives today. As the premiere approaches, the show is expected to captivate audiences with its authentic, impactful storytelling.
