Police in Nyamira County are investigating the tragic death of a 22-year-old Chuka University student, Brian Mogaka, who succumbed to injuries inflicted by his uncles in Nyankono village, North Mugirango Constituency.
Mogaka had reportedly been suspended from Chuka University over allegations of cannabis abuse. His mother, Teresa Mogaka, sought the help of her brothers to discipline him, a decision that led to a brutal beating.
According to police sources, the uncles tied Mogaka’s hands and legs before caning him relentlessly, leading to his death. In an apparent attempt to cover up the crime, they changed his clothes, laid him in bed, and planted cattle pesticide near him to make it appear as though he had taken his own life. The suspects then fled the scene.
When officers from Ekerenyo Police Station and investigators arrived on Tuesday night, they found Mogaka’s body bearing multiple bruises and injuries consistent with caning. His remains were taken to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital for further examination.
Ikonge Assistant Chief Joseph Masese confirmed the extent of the injuries, stating, “The deceased’s body has several bruises and injuries from canes.”
Authorities are now hunting for the uncles involved, while the community reels from the shocking incident.
