A 24-year-old woman has been found dead in what authorities suspect to be a case of suicide after allegedly jumping into a water pond in Gatanga, Murang’a County.
According to police reports, the lifeless body of Lucy Wambui, 24, was discovered floating in the pond on April 5, in an apparent drowning incident.
Police officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that the young woman had “jumped into the water in a suicide mission.”
Nearby, investigators found a pair of red slippers and a cap on the bank of the pond, believed to have belonged to the deceased.
Wambui was last seen at Kaguku shopping centre, where she worked as a casual labourer at a local hotel, according to police.
A suicide note was also recovered at the scene. Her body was later moved to Thika General Kago mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
