Bishop T.D. Jakes has officially announced that he will be stepping down as the senior pastor of The Potter’s House, the Dallas megachurch he founded in 1996.

Beginning this July, his daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, and her husband, Touré Roberts, will assume the roles of co-senior pastors. Bishop Jakes, 67, emphasized that this move is not a retirement but rather an expansion of his mission to address broader societal challenges, including those impacting the middle class and rising social unrest.

While stepping away from daily leadership duties, Bishop Jakes will remain deeply involved as Chairman of the Board and “spiritual overseer” of The Potter’s House. He will also continue leading the T.D. Jakes Group, which oversees various real estate, business, and nonprofit ventures.

This transition comes months after a health scare in November 2024, when Jakes suffered a heart attack during a live sermon. He has since recovered and remains a globally influential faith leader.

Under his leadership, The Potter’s House grew to a congregation of over 30,000 active members, cementing his legacy as one of the most impactful voices in modern ministry
