Detectives in Nakuru are investigating a tragic incident where a boda boda rider allegedly poisoned his two sons before attempting to take his own life.
The suspect, currently fighting for his life at the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital under tight police surveillance, is said to have poisoned his sons, aged 7 and 12, on Wednesday, April 2. The motive behind the act remains unclear.
According to the children’s mother, the incident occurred while she was at work delivering food. She recalled noticing her husband’s motorcycle parked outside their home earlier in the day and assumed their children were safe with him.
As she continued with her deliveries, she called her husband to ask what he and the children would like for lunch, intending to bring their meals later. Moments later, two of her other children arrived at her workplace with distressing news—her two sons at home were crying in pain and unable to move.
“I asked them where the father was, and they told me that he had gone to pick a client. I asked my co-worker to hold fort as I rushed home,” she recounted in an interview.
When she arrived, she found her two children suffering from severe diarrhea and crying in pain. Alarmed, she called her neighbors, who helped rush the boys to the hospital. Later, she discovered that her husband had also been admitted to the same facility after allegedly attempting suicide.
Despite medical efforts, the two boys succumbed to poisoning while receiving treatment. Investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing.
