Kelvin Moinde, a Kisii-based blogger who was arrested alongside Albert Ojwang’ over their social media posts on X, has been released without charge.
According to a statement from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) seen by BRK, the DPP found no grounds for prosecution. “Upon careful perusal of the inquiry file, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is satisfied that there is NO sufficient evidence to charge Mr. KELVIN MOINDE,” the statement reads.
Moinde had been arrested last Thursday in Tendere village, Gucha sub-county, Kisii County, over tweets allegedly targeting Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat. Following his arrest, he was taken to a local police station before being transferred to Nairobi, where he was detained at the DCI headquarters and later held at Kamukunji Police Station.
His release comes amid national uproar over the death of Albert Ojwang’, who was arrested two days after Moinde and later found dead in police custody at Nairobi’s Central Police Station under mysterious circumstances. Investigations into Ojwang’s death are ongoing.
