A family in Chepkoiyo village, Cherang’any Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, is seeking justice after allegedly losing their 9.6-acre ancestral land in a suspected case of fraud and elder abuse.

The five daughters of 90-year-old William Kazimoto claim their father was tricked into transferring the land while intoxicated at local chang’aa and busaa dens, resulting in the illegal occupation of their inheritance by unknown individuals.

According to Priscilla Kazimoto, the second-born daughter, the family had no knowledge of any sale agreements or land transfers until it was too late.

“Our father was manipulated while drunk. We had no idea the land was being taken from us,” she said

Her sister, Everline Cheptoo, echoed the same concern, adding that the land is now occupied by people they’ve never seen.

Their uncle, Christopher Koskei, said that a caution had once been placed on the land to prevent fraudulent transfers, yet it was still irregularly handed over—raising serious legal concerns.

In one of the revelations, Jepkoech Kazimoto shared that their late mother was buried in Kericho, not on their ancestral land, due to the dispute.

“That still haunts us. She died heartbroken knowing we had no land,” she said.

Jepkoech explained how local brewers allegedly inflated bills to manipulate their father into signing away the land.

“If his chang’aa bill was Sh1,000, they told him it was Sh100,000. That’s how we lost our home,” she explained.

Now frail, Kazimoto denied knowingly transferring ownership, maintaining he has no idea who the new occupants are.

“I don’t recognise the people living on that land. They are fraudsters. Let them show legal proof if the land belongs to them,” he said defiantly.

The family is now appealing for intervention from authorities, including the National Land Commission (NLC), to investigate and reverse the illegal transfer.
