Popular Kenyan rapper Mario TJ Kasela, better known as Trio Mio, has finally addressed the long-standing curiosity surrounding his ethnic background.

In a candid live video session alongside his mother, Sofia Irma Sakwa, Trio put the speculation to rest. His mother firmly stated that the Cheza Kama Wewe hitmaker is Luhya, originating specifically from Butsotso in Kakamega County.

“Trio is Luhya. He comes from Butsotso, Kakamega County,” Sofia emphasized during the stream, aiming to correct frequent public assumptions.

Trio himself added that many fans often think he’s Kamba or Kikuyu, but he explained that he actually has a rich, multicultural heritage: Italian and Congolese roots from his father, and Luhya lineage from his mother.
