Nairobi entrepreneur John Mwaura, CEO of Dollar Furnitures, is facing a storm of online backlash after screenshots surfaced alleging he offered luxury home items to young women in exchange for private meetings. The images, widely shared on X and Instagram, show messages in which the businessman purportedly promises beds, sofas and dining sets if the recipients “meet him privately.”

Screenshots circulating online appear to show at least six separate conversations matching this pattern. Mwaura has not publicly commented.

Kenyan social‑media users have condemned the alleged conduct, calling on consumer‑protection agencies to investigate.

Under Kenya’s Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, using electronic communications for coercive or exploitative purposes can attract penalties, while the Sexual Offences Act outlaws quid‑pro‑quo harassment in the workplace. Legal analysts say complainants would need to file formal affidavits for charges to proceed.

Launched in Ruiru in 2018, Dollar Furnitures rose quickly on social platforms, often spotlighting Mwaura’s philanthropy and luxury lifestyle.
