Migori woman found dead in River Kuja after suspected suicide

A 38-year-old woman, identified as Hilda Akinyi, was found dead in River Kuja in Awendo area, Migori County, in a case police suspect to be suicide.

According to police reports, Akinyi had earlier sent a distressing message to her brother, asking him to pick up her child from Nairobi. In the message, she indicated that she was “in River Kuja,” before her body was found floating in the river on July 9.

There were no visible injuries on her body, which has since been moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Akinyi, who lived in Nairobi, had travelled to her rural home in Kasere village before going missing. Her disappearance had been reported at Kamagambo Police Station, prompting a search that ended with the tragic discovery
