The search for Jane Wambui Njoroge, a clinical officer based at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital, has come to a tragic end after her decomposing body was exhumed from a shallow grave within her home compound in Raini village, Naivasha.

Wambui, who specialized in pediatrics, had been reported missing after she was last seen at work on Friday, July 4. Her sudden disappearance alarmed both family and colleagues, triggering an intense search that ended in heartbreak.

According to Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Antony Keter, a house-help employed by the family was arrested on suspicion of involvement in Wambui’s disappearance. The woman later led detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to the scene, where the shallow grave was discovered and exhumed.

Initial investigations indicate Wambui may have been bludgeoned with a blunt object before being buried in the compound. Her body was badly decomposed, suggesting she had been murdered shortly after her last sighting.

Speaking to the media, John Kimani, Wambui’s husband who works in Kitale, expressed his devastation at the grim discovery. He recounted his last conversation with his wife on Friday before receiving a disturbing call on Sunday that she had vanished.

“When I was informed she was missing, I gave permission to those gathered at our home to break in and search for her,” Kimani said. “They found nothing, only to later discover her body buried in the compound.”

Kimani also shared that Wambui had been battling cancer, making the news of her death even more harrowing. He expressed disbelief that someone they had helped and trusted—their house-help—was now implicated in the murder.

Commander Keter confirmed the arrest of the house-help and said that more suspects are being sought.

“The family made a report of a missing person, and after investigations, we arrested one suspect who led us to the scene. We are pursuing additional individuals who may have been involved,” he stated.
