Nakuru, Kenya – July 25, 2025 – Police in Nakuru’s St Mary’s area have launched an investigation after the body of a 28-year-old woman, Anne Wathithi Kariuki, was discovered decomposing in her house under unclear circumstances.

Decomposing Body Found on Bed

Officers were alerted to the incident by concerned neighbors, and upon arriving at the scene, they found Anne’s body lying on her bed. The house was unlocked, and no signs of forced entry were reported, raising suspicion about the cause of death.

The deceased was reportedly last seen days earlier.

Boyfriend Seen Leaving the House

A neighbor told police that she had seen the deceased’s boyfriend, whom she could physically identify, exiting the house around the same time Anne was last seen alive.

Police say the man is a person of interest, although no arrests have been made so far. Authorities are currently tracing him for questioning.

Body Awaiting Postmortem

The body of Anne Wathithi Kariuki has been taken to the Nakuru County Referral Hospital mortuary where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause and time of death.

Police: Investigation Underway

Nakuru police have urged the public to remain calm and report any information that could assist the investigation. The case remains open as homicide detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) take over the probe.

Residents of the St Mary’s area are now calling for increased police patrols and community awareness following a spate of similar incidents in the region.
