A tragic robbery incident in Kondele, Kisumu County has left two people dead — including a female shopkeeper who was stabbed in the neck, and her suspected attacker, who was later lynched by an enraged mob.
The victim, identified as Mercy Muthoni, was reportedly attending to customers at her shop when she was confronted by a knife-wielding assailant during what police believe was an attempted robbery.
Fatal Attack Sparks Mob Justice
According to witnesses, the attacker drew a kitchen knife and stabbed Muthoni in the neck, inflicting fatal injuries. She collapsed at the scene as bystanders raised alarm.
“Locals quickly surrounded the suspect, and before police could arrive, he was stoned to death by the mob,” said a senior officer from Kondele Police Station
Police later arrived at the scene and recovered the blood-stained knife, believed to have been used in the attack.
Both Bodies Taken to Mortuary
Emergency responders confirmed Muthoni was dead on arrival at the hospital. Both her body and that of the suspected robber have since been moved to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for autopsy and identification.
