Nairobi, Kenya – A pedestrian lost his life on Saturday evening in a fatal Thika Road accident near Garden City Mall after being struck by speeding vehicles while attempting to cross the busy highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified man dashed from Homeland Restaurant toward Garden City Mall, choosing to cross the eight-lane Thika Superhighway instead of using the nearby pedestrian footbridge.
“He ran straight into the road. A car hit him, and then another vehicle ran over him. It took several people to pull him out from under the car,” one bystander told reporters.
The tragic incident caused a significant traffic snarl-up, as vehicles slowed and stopped on the highway. Police had not yet arrived at the scene at the time, and the body remained at the spot for some time, worsening the jam.
Authorities have repeatedly warned pedestrians against crossing busy highways without using designated crossings, citing the dangers of speeding traffic. Thika Road, a major artery connecting Nairobi to central and northern Kenya, has seen numerous similar tragedies in recent years.
