Tragedy struck in Mogonga, Kenyenya, Kisii County, after two young lovers suffocated to death inside a generator room where they had sought privacy.
According to police reports, the man, who worked at a local bar, had invited his girlfriend to the generator room on Monday night. Sadly, they both lost their lives after inhaling toxic carbon monoxide fumes emitted by a running generator.
How the tragedy unfolded
The generator, which supplies electricity to the bar, had reportedly run out of diesel. A bar manager who came to refuel it using a spare key discovered the lifeless bodies of the two lovers lying on a bed inside the small room.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors confirmed they had died long before being found. Medical officials cited carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause of death.
Police investigation
Kenyenya police officers visited the scene to document evidence and launched an official investigation. The bodies have since been moved to a local mortuary for postmortem examinations as part of the ongoing probe.

Health experts warn that carbon monoxide (CO) is a silent and odorless gas that can cause suffocation in poorly ventilated spaces. Common sources include generators, charcoal stoves, and faulty gas appliances.
