Residents of Ngurubani town in Mwea, Kirinyaga County are reeling in shock after a man allegedly murdered his wife and two children before attempting to take his own life in a gruesome domestic incident.
According to police and eyewitnesses, chaos erupted late on the night of Friday, August 15, after loud screams were heard from the suspect’s house.
Moments later, the man reportedly emerged from the burning house with a rope tied around his neck and severe burns on his body. Alarmed residents rushed in and discovered the charred remains of three victims—believed to be his wife and two children—burnt beyond recognition.
Police said the suspect was rescued and rushed to hospital under police guard, while the bodies were transferred to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Authorities have since launched investigations to establish the motive behind the horrific act. Locals have expressed deep shock and grief, describing the incident as one of the worst domestic tragedies to hit the area in recent years.
