An 18-year-old woman died by suicide after jumping into River Yala in Yala Town, Siaya County, following a domestic dispute at her home.

Police identified the victim as Seline Adhiambo, whose bag containing personal documents and a pair of open shoes were found abandoned on the bridge where she is believed to have jumped.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, and witnesses reported seeing the young woman plunge into the river. Efforts to retrieve her body were still ongoing by Wednesday, police confirmed.

According to relatives, Seline had quarreled with her mother before the tragic event and had threatened to end her life. Authorities have linked the suicide to the family dispute.

Police have urged families to seek peaceful conflict resolution and to encourage young people facing challenges to reach out for counseling and community support.
