Detectives in Ugunja, Siaya County are investigating a shocking double murder after a woman and her five-year-old son were found killed inside their home in Bambra village.
According to police reports, the victims — identified as Nyamanga Otieno, 30, and her young son — were discovered lying in a pool of blood on Tuesday morning.
Investigators revealed that a domestic dispute escalated when the suspect, Nyamanga’s husband, allegedly attacked her with a jembe (hoe), fatally striking her on the head. He then turned on his son, clobbering him to death.
Police said the suspect attempted to take his own life by ingesting poison. He was found unconscious next to a gradometer can believed to have contained the toxic substance.
The man was rushed to hospital, where he remains in critical condition under police guard. The bodies of the victims have since been transferred to the morgue pending autopsy.
Authorities have launched investigations into the incident, describing it as one of the most disturbing cases of domestic violence in the region.
