Los Angeles, USA – September 3, 2025, 09:00 AM (EAT) – American rapper Cardi B has won a major legal battle. A Los Angeles jury cleared her in a civil lawsuit where a security guard accused her of assault. The Grammy-winning artist was found not guilty of causing injury.

The case began with a 2018 confrontation in Los Angeles. Ms Ellis, a security guard, claimed that Cardi B scratched and spat on her. The rapper admitted shouting during the dispute but firmly denied any physical assault, according to BBC.

Cardi B Testifies About the Confrontation

Cardi B told jurors that tensions rose after Ms Ellis allegedly revealed her private pregnancy appointment to someone on the phone. At the time, she had not announced her pregnancy publicly. She explained that she feared for her unborn baby, as reported by CNN.

She added that the guard appeared to record her and refused to step back. This led to a profanity-filled shouting match. “I told her to get out of my face,” Cardi B testified, insisting that she never hit Ms Ellis.

Her testimony received support from her doctor and receptionist, Tierra Malcolm. Malcolm told the court that Ellis was the aggressor. She said the guard swung her arms in an attempt to strike Cardi B. In the chaos, Malcolm suffered a cut on her head, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Courtroom Drama and Public Reaction

Cardi B’s courtroom appearances quickly went viral on social media. Her wigs, outfits, and long nails became a major talking point. During closing arguments, she wore a polka dot suit with a red bow, drawing attention inside and outside the court.

A handful of fans gathered daily to show support. Among them was Christine Orozco, a local resident. She held a handmade sign that read, “If the nail don’t fit, u must acquit.” The phrase referenced the O.J. Simpson trial. Cardi B laughed when she spotted the pun.

Jury Clears Cardi B of Liability

Ms Ellis demanded $24 million in damages for pain and suffering. She argued that the rapper owed her compensation. After deliberating, the jury rejected the claim and ruled in favor of Cardi B, Reuters reported.

Fans celebrated the decision outside the courthouse. They cheered as Cardi B exited the building smiling, according to Associated Press.

The verdict adds to Cardi B’s list of legal victories. Despite facing several lawsuits in the past, she continues to dominate the music industry with hit records and global influence.
