The government has released Sh4 billion to the Social Health Authority (SHA) to fund medical cover for public servants under the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
The announcement was made by Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku, who emphasized that the move reflects the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers.
Leaders Rally Support for SHA
Speaking during the annual ACK Women’s Union service at ACK St. Peter’s Cathedral, Siakago, Mbeere North, CS Ruku urged Kenyans to embrace the SHA, describing it as a transformative step toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
He noted that approximately 30,000 Kenyans are registering daily, a sign of growing confidence in the new health system.
SHA Confirms Receipt of Funds
SHA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Mwangangi confirmed on Friday that the Authority had received the Sh4 billion allocation.
“This funding ensures that public servants will be fully covered under SHIF, protecting them from the burden of high out-of-pocket medical expenses,” CS Ruku said.
Push for Universal Health Coverage
The government has been intensifying efforts to ensure that all Kenyans benefit from affordable and accessible healthcare.
